AI agents and MCP
Prophouse runs a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, so an AI agent can work with your prop library the way your team does: search it, look at thumbnails, download files, check props out and back in, work the review queue, and import props straight into an open Unreal Engine project. The agent acts as the person whose API key it holds, with that person’s permissions.
What an agent can do
Section titled “What an agent can do”- Search the library in plain language (“worn leather armchair”, “rusty barrel under 5k tris”), browse by pack, category, tag and type, find props that look like an existing one, or search with a reference image.
- Inspect props: full detail, thumbnails as images it can see, version history, and the dependency graph.
- Download any version of a prop.
- Edit props safely: check out (an exclusive lock), upload a new version, and check in. A teammate’s lock or a newer version is never overwritten.
- Review: see what is waiting on you, approve or request changes, open review rounds, comment, @mention teammates, and read notifications.
- Import props, with their materials and textures, into the Unreal project you have open, then place them in the level with an editor-side tool.
The full list is in the tool reference.
Connection details
Section titled “Connection details”| Endpoint | https://api.prophouse.dev/mcp |
| Transport | Streamable HTTP. Every message is a POST and every answer is plain JSON (no server-sent events). |
| Sessions | None. The server is stateless and authenticates each request on its own. |
| Protocol versions | 2025-06-18, 2025-03-26, 2024-11-05 |
| Authentication | Authorization: Bearer <API key> header |
| Request size | 1 MB per request |
Setup steps for each client are on Connect your agent.
API keys and scopes
Section titled “API keys and scopes”Create a key at app.prophouse.dev/keys (see API keys). Each key has one of two scopes:
| Scope | What the agent can do |
|---|---|
read |
Every read tool: search, browse, prop detail, thumbnails, history, downloads, reviews and comments (reading), notifications (reading), Unreal editor status. |
write |
Everything above, plus check-out and check-in, restoring versions, review actions, comments, notification and watch changes, and Unreal imports. |
With a read key, a write tool returns a FORBIDDEN error that says a write-scoped key is needed. A write key still cannot do more than its owner’s role allows: admin-only actions stay admin-only.
A key acts as the workspace member who created it. That matters for Unreal imports, which only run in editors signed in as that same member.
Agent calls and your plan
Section titled “Agent calls and your plan”On hosted plans, each MCP tool call counts toward the workspace’s monthly agent-call allowance. Connecting and listing tools do not count, and searching from the desktop app, web library or Unreal plugin never counts. See Errors and limits for the numbers.
