Install the plugin

The plugin supports Unreal Engine 5.8 on Windows. It is editor-only: it adds nothing to packaged games. Plugin builds are published per workspace, so you download them from your account dashboard rather than from Fab.

  • Unreal Engine 5.8 on Windows (Win64).
  • The Prophouse desktop app on the same machine, signed in to your workspace. Pushes and imports transfer their files through it. See Install the desktop app.
  • A Prophouse account with access to a workspace.

The plugin enables Unreal’s glTF Exporter plugin automatically; it uses it to export 3D previews.

  1. Sign in to your dashboard at https://app.prophouse.dev and open API keys (https://app.prophouse.dev/keys).

  2. In the Unreal plugin panel, click download next to the newest build. The download is a zip of the packaged plugin.

Unzip the download so the plugin’s Prophouse folder, with Prophouse.uplugin directly inside it, ends up in one of two places.

Unzip so the descriptor lands at:

<YourProject>/Plugins/Prophouse/Prophouse.uplugin

Create the Plugins folder next to your .uproject file if it does not exist. Only this project gets the plugin, and you can commit it with the project so the whole team has it.

Then enable it:

  1. Open the project in Unreal Editor 5.8.

  2. Go to Edit → Plugins, search for Prophouse for Unreal Engine and tick Enabled.

  3. Restart the editor when prompted.

  4. Open Window → Prophouse and sign in. See Sign in from the editor.

To update, close the editor, replace the Prophouse folder with the new build, and reopen the project.

Pushes and imports run through the Prophouse desktop app by default. The editor hands the app your files over a local connection, and the app uploads or downloads them in the background with retries. A push keeps uploading after you close the editor, and a downloaded file is cached so a repeat import moves no network bytes.

  1. Download the installer from https://prophouse.dev/download and run it.

  2. Open the desktop app and sign in to the same workspace the editor uses.

The plugin shows the app’s status at the top of Editor Preferences → Plugins → Prophouse, in the Desktop Agent section. Typical states:

Status Meaning
Agent running (v…) — workspace: … Ready. Transfers go to the named workspace.
Agent running (v…) — no workspace bound yet. Sign in from the Prophouse desktop app. The app is running but not signed in. A push is staged and waits until you sign in there.
Agent installed but not running — it starts automatically on the next push or pull. Nothing to do. Click Start agent to start it now.
Agent version mismatch — update the Prophouse desktop app and this plugin together. Update both to current builds.
Agent not detected — install the Prophouse desktop app for background transfers (legacy direct mode still works without it). Click Install… to open the download page.

If the app is installed but not running, the plugin starts it for you when you push or import. If it is not installed, the editor shows a Prophouse agent required notification with an Install the Prophouse desktop app link. The plugin never downloads or runs an installer on its own.

If you cannot run the desktop app on a machine, you can have the editor talk to the server directly:

  1. Open Edit → Editor Preferences → Plugins → Prophouse.

  2. Under Advanced, tick Use legacy direct transfers (deprecated).

With this on, pushes and imports upload and download from inside the editor process, so a push must finish before you close the editor. The option is deprecated and will be removed in a future release; every use writes a warning to the Output Log.
